Naval port

Den Helder is the home base of the Royal Netherlands Navy, which has its own naval complex. As a maritime nation, the Netherlands has always had a modern naval fleet consisting of frigates, submarines, minehunters, assault ships, suppliers, tugs, survey vessels, landing craft, diving support vessels and others.

A modern yard is situated on the naval complex, fitted with a ship lift and a large fully-roofed drydock. In terms of facilities, this is one of the most modern yards in Europe. The complex is also home to a range of maintenance businesses and training institutions including the Duik Medisch Centrum (Royal Netherlands Navy Diving Medical Centre) which has leading-edge facilities for treating divers from both the offshore and other maritime industries, following diving accidents.

There are excellent relations between the naval businesses and civilian businesses when it comes to exchanging work, knowledge and information.
