Haven Den Helder

Vaarshop van Kalsbeek has been based in Den Helder for over seventy years now. The company was set up in 1899 and is specialised in supplying a large range of water sport articles. This includes safety clothing, flags, ship electronics, sailing clothes, ancillary boats, oil lamps, books and cards. Vaarshop Van Kalsbeek is also a dealer of well-known paint manufacturers and a supplier of antifouling. Other activities are ship soft furnishings, steel cable processing and inspecting life rafts.

Vallourec Mannesmann Oil & Gas Nederland is the Dutch division of VAM Drilling France S.A.S. from Boulogne-Billancourt, world leaders in seamless tube manufacturing and tube joints. The company also fabricates numerous other special tools used in the drilling process. Alongside the production of drill pipes and accessories, the company provides on-site technical support during the drilling process, and carries out inspections and repairs. The range of services also includes on-site training of rig crews. All these activities are undertaken worldwide for the oil and gas industry.

Based at the isle of Texel, L.H. Visser & Zn. Towage and Marine Services has been doing transglobal towage, salvage, and supply work for more than twenty years now. For this work, the company disposes of the up-to-date multipurpose support vessel Elizabeth which features a bollard-pull capacity of approximately 20 tons. This vessel is engaged in work for the dredging and offshore industries. For said industries, the Elizabeth carries out anchor-handling, general service, supply, survey, towage, and salvage work.

Since 1923, Visser Den Helder (Visser shipyard) has been engaged in the design, construction, conversion and repair of ships in the port of Den Helder. For doing this work, it has facilities which include several slipways and a drydock featuring a lifting capacity of 1100 tons and a small drydock with a lifting capacity of 200 tons. This shipyard primarily works for the fishing trade and the offshore industry. For the latter, it has converted fishing ships into safety-standby vessels. Scheepswerf Visser carries out inspection, maintenance, repair and conversion work on all kinds of offshore vessels. Early 1993, the yard became part of the Damen Shipyard Group.

Visser Texel, former Texdok, has been a subsidiary company of Visser Den Helder since April 1, 2007. In the port of Oudeschild, the company has a drydock with a lifting capacity of 1500 tons. This dock is used intensively for taking fishing boats, offshore ships and other sorts of vessels out of the water for inspections, maintenance and/or repairs. Visser Texel is also active in welding and construction, for which it has a well-equipped fitting shop. The construction work is carried out in steel, stainless steel and aluminium. The company also has access to a gas and oxygen depot of Hoekloos-gassen.

From its home base in Den Helder, VOF Vondervoort carries out guard services for the offshore industry and organises sports fishing activities. For its guard services, the company operates the vessel Jadi, a former fishing boat that was adapted in Den Helder in winter 2007/2008 to carry out guard work in North West European waters. The company’s second vessel, the Nestor, is deployed for sports fishing activities from the port of Den Helder.

De Vries & van de Wiel is originally a company from the province of North Holland that since 1 January 2000 has formed part of the Belgian company DEC NV (Deme Environmental Contractors, part of the DEME Group). Vries & van de Wiel''s head office is based in Schagen but it has regional offices in Heerenveen and on the West Frisian islands Texel and Terschelling. The company also has a yard for repair and construction work in the harbour of Schagen. The core activities comprise of earth works, road building and hydraulic engineering, dredging and soil remediation, sand exploitation and the recycling of waste products. Furthermore, the company has its own engineering office and is involved in plan development. De Vries & van de Wiel has a fleet of dredging boats and earth-moving equipment.

Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) is a dynamic and ambitious international offshore shipping company, based in Den Helder. The company operates a fleet of 21 vessels, primarily active on the North Sea, although some vessels are engaged in worldwide operations. The fleet is engaged in a variety of different offshore services like platform supply, anchor handling and towing, safety standby work, diving support, survey and seismic support. There are currently three platform vessels, four standby vessels and three diving support vessels under construction for delivery in 2007-2008. Vroon Offshore Services is also specialised in offshore windmill installation projects through its subsidiary Marine Projects International (UK).
